On November 22, 2025, Scott N6MI and Jim AF6O organized the all-day transmitter hunt.
Paul WB6HPW and Seth N6PL had Saturday night duties, so the start point was moved to the (former) Summit Inn north of the intersection of the 15 and 138, at the Oak Hill exit (Cajon Summit).
Doug WA6RJN was able to join to the hunt, as well.
All other t-hunters passed along their excuses before the hunt.
The weather at the Cajon Summit was wet, rainy, and windy. The dirt roads were covered in an assortment of water puddles. In other words -- perfect weather for a November hunt.
Given the time constraints, we decided on a "sprint" t-hunt. Five one-watt transmitters (all CW transmitters, identifying as N6MI), a 50 milliwatt T8, and one 25-milliwatt transmitter (a voice transmitter identifying as AF6O) were placed in the dirt (mud) roads just north of Apple Valley, along a four-mile stretch of the 15 freeway between the Dale Evans and Stoddard Wells exits.
At one microwave tower site, there were two transmitters identifying as T8 -- a trick, of course. We were hoping someone would only sign in at one of the transmitters.
Both teams found all the transmitters (including the two T8s), but WB6HPW and N6PL were first to every transmitter. So that team is the winner and will hide in April 2026.
We were glad to mingle with the hunters during the hunt.
On Sunday, the car wash professionals spent over an hour removing the mud from N6MI's truck. Nice!
Thank you for coming out. And thanks to WB6HPW and N6PL for a number of our photos.
73,
N6MI and AF6O
