Hunt Story

It was a good day for a hunt with nice weather. The problem I had is that I had to work as it was Superbowl Weekend. That meant that my hiding location would be on the western side of the boundary line which would give me time to arrive and setup just in the nick of time. This wasn’t a problem as I had a good spot in mind off of the I8. When I arrived at my spot, despite it being a parking lot for a public place of business, I was greeted by many No Trespassing Signs along with No Loitering Signs. I lost count after about 25. I briefly debated if my No Treaspassing sign would blend in nicely then ultimately decided that the rule committee would not be happy and I relocated. After driving a ways and heading towards my backup plan, I spotted a parking lot up up against the hills above and behind a large building that was in part a gym. I thought this would be good to not be directly visible from the road and shield part of my signal.

Three teams, three transmitters. One Kraken, two regular. There would have been four teams and two Krakens, but Jason was having trouble with the Kraken and decided to ride with Tim (the other Kraken). One main and two micros. And of course, the micros where on a different frequency. I didn’t want to make it too hard for the hunters to locate the micros if the main would be steeping on them. Teams did the usual chasing reflections around hotel circle and then up into bird land. Your hider appreciated that. Tim sat directly in front of us on the other side of the freeway with third harmonic for quite a while  He almost drove up the hill into hill crest but the antenna that was not rotating accidentally pointed right at him during its non rotation cycle and he turned around and found me.

Tim AJ6XP and David AK6QP was first to arrive at 6:27 PM, Kraken team with Robert N9SCD, Mike KO6JVN, and Jason KB3ERS where second to arrive at 6:36 PM. W6ZM and Marty decided to tour the city and look for hiding spots rather than locate us and called it quits at 7:00 PM and headed directly to dinner. W6ZM was not beconiong, so we can not confirm where he went, however at dinner we got to hear about all the many new hiding places he was finding.

We ended up eating at Wood Ranch, a BBQ place that turned out to be really good. Thanks all for joining and look forward to the next one.
