On May 22, 2026 (Friday), Jim (AF6O) and Scott (N6MI) hid four transmitters around Cajon Junction (near Hesperia, California) on 146.565 MHz. This was a start anywhere hunt.

The first transmitter (N6MI T22) ran about 1 watt to a short whip on Santa Fe Fire Road at the Cajon Junction (just southwest of the intersection of the 138 and 15). It was about 15 feet from an active railroad track.

The second transmitter (N6MI T06) was hidden at the end of Davis Ranch Road, in the Mormon Rocks area (just north of the 138). This was a 20-watt transmitter, fed into a four-element quad in a tree (about 40 feet from an empty swimming pool by a burned-out homestead).

The third transmitter (N6MI T66) was hidden at the end of Caliente Road (if you can call it a road) about 1.2 miles southwest of the Oak Hill exit from the 15 freeway. This ran 20 watts into a yagi (vertically polarized) pointed at Wrightwood. The transmitter was in a canyon, so there were a lot of reflections for the hunters.

The fourth transmitter (N6MI T03) was hidden about 2.5 miles southeast of the Oak Hill exit from the 15 freeway, along a power line road. This one ran 170 watts into a log periodic in a bush.

WB6HPW and N6PL found all four transmitters. Good job.

KI6RXX and Conrad (what's his call again) found three transmitters. They missed N6MI T03 because, well, it started to fail -- and then accepted N6MI's invitation to go for a late night pizza.
