On Saturday 08/07/2021 a hunt was hosted by KI6RXX and KG6JEI. With short notice and not allot of pre planning we picked a familiar place. A trip to lunch and then off to the hiding spot. Then we realized RXX had not turned off his APRS so we had to change plans and move to a different location. We choose west hills park close to the starting location. The idea was to put a micro out and see if we could get the hunters to think the transmission was far away and head into scripps ranch area for no reason. We also hid 4 other transmitters so that the new hunters would get a chance to practice their sniffing. A second frequency was chosen for the other transmitters so that they would be easier to hunt and not overlap the main. 5 o’ clock came around and the hunters where off. Wait, why is Bruce heading south? Then the next question, it looks like the other hunters are spending too much time on the 67 in Santee and getting ready to turn around. Looks like we didn’t fool them. Now Bruce is heading north towards us. Then the other hunters decide to keep heading north on 67 and some north on the 15. Woot woot we did fool them. Well all but Bruce. Once he realized (his handle was on backwards?) he drove straight to us. Bruce was first to arrive at 5:18pm and very surprised he was the only one there. Next to arrive was Joe and Tony at about 5:52pm. Next was Bill W6ZM and team at 6:06pm. Later Greg and Joe arrive and then shortly after where ORF and SCD with their fancy Doppler setup. The main transmitter was a micro hidden up in a tree. I tied a piece of fishing line to a rock and tossed it up over a high branch and then hoisted up the micro. We put an empty amp box below as a decoy. The decoy fooled no one, however the hunters had a hard time being able to definitively state there was a transmitter in the tree. Bruce was first to spot the transmitter in the tree and find all the other transmitters and is the winner. Tony and Joe came in Second. Bill W6ZM and Team third. 4th to find all there Joe and Greg, and last to find all was Bill ORF and team. Thanks to all for coming out and hunting. We had a blast and hope that the hunters did too.
