I had a hunt all planned and then the rain and hail and lightning started. Over 100 degrees and hail in Alpine. In September...
Didn't have a plan B so I just hoofed it over to Beeler Canyon cause that's always a fun hunt.
It usually only takes a few watts to get the signal to the start point but today was just full of surprises. 30 watts to the 11 element beam pointed directly at them got a signal that was barely out of the noise.
Conrad and Greg took the long way around up the 67 to Scripps Poway Parkway. They arrived at the transmitter site 12 minutes later at 6:00
Joe and Greg took a more direct path but went past Creek road and met up with Conrad and Greg up above. They arrived at the transmitter site at 6:05
Bill and Bryan arrived at 6:21
Phb and VLF showed up at 6:23
N9SCD and Casey, KN4QKF did not find the transmitter with the Krakken doppler. It was not a doppler friendly hunt.
We all adjourned to Taco's and Tequila (the old Tio Leos) for dinner and tales. The service was meah, the food a bit better than OK...
Thanks to Joe, N6SZO for the very fine photographs.
