This was my third consecutive month to hide an All Day T Hunt. In July, I hid an urban hunt west of Pasadena. That one was plagued with transmitter problems. In August, I hid two high powered transmitters south-west and south-east of Hesperia and pointed the antennas at the mountains. Great idea but no one could find them (what fun is that?). I tried yet again on this hide.
One area I had scoped out was the hills south-west of Mojave. There was an area with altitude just off Tehachapi Willow Springs Rd for the main T (T1) and several places for others. The main T was set up using a bush to hold the 11-element beam (I forgot the tripod), and an amp running 28 watts. The beam was pointed at the starting point.
I set out to hide T10 (2W) in a bush near the aqueduct. Next was T2 (4W) and the talking T (VW bug) at the north end of a hill near 80th and Reed Ave.
That was 4 Ts. There should be at least 5. Another small T near the main T should do it. T5 was hid there.
Finally, all the Ts were hidden and I didn’t have to revisit any because they were all working and could be heard.
There seem to be some confusion because the signal was bouncing round the mountains of Cajon Pass causing the hunters to go north and north-east rather than north-west up I5. Once at Summit, a good signal pointed north-west.
All three teams found all 5 Ts before dark. I finally I got it right.
The results are very interesting. Two teams found the Ts in a quite different order, using about the same time, but had the same ending mileage. The coin toss was won by the N6MI/AF6O team which is now elected to hide the February hunt.
